paradise, redux
i keep getting pulled back to malibu. some things have changed since i last lived here, but not the special magic in the air, in the hills, and in the sky. it’s that magic that keeps pulling me back. in the bridge of my song, “California Redux,” i sing, “there, where all the stars surround us, we are free.” that double entendre is meant to describe the phenomenon of living close to the stars in the sky, among the stars of screen and stage, to highlight the magic that draws people in, regardless of their place in the world. it’s definitely not a place for everyone, but it got its hooks in me, so i’ve decided to reattach myself while i’ve got some good years at hand. you’ll be hearing from me out here more as we go, but i’m keeping my place in newton and the van Gogh Brothers’ residency at vincent’s, so i’ll have a foot in my old stomping grounds.
in other news, the van Gogh Brothers are winding up the school year at Vincent’s with shows on May 9th and June 13. catch us while you can, since we’ll be absent in july and august, returning September 12th. if you haven’t caught Geoff Abraham at one of his Burren shows, make sure you do. i’ve known Geoff since he started Black Number Nine back in the ‘90’s, and he has grown into an amazing writer and performer, as well as a prolific composer for television. Geoff and i have started kicking around the idea of a show together in the fall with THE BELT WELTS, which i think would be a lot of fun. speaking of THE BELT WELTS, we’re looking at completing mixes this summer for a fall album release, which might coincide nicely with a show with the Geoff Abraham Band.
it’s been a busy couple of months with birthday hijinks for Donna and me, a new granddaughter thanks to my daughter, Caroline, and my son in law, Collin, and my Marshfield cottage going up for sale, a bittersweet decision to support my west coast transition. i’m a firm believer in change— i think it keeps us growing— and the notion that we don’t get unlimited tickets to the shows of our lives, so we better catch the ones we want to see.
ok, that’s enough out of me. go catch the shows you want to see, and include a night with the van Gogh Brothers when you can!
love,
jc
