What a summer! It’s been hot in Malibu— steamy and humid— very unusual for SoCal, and somehow fun and summery. Music abounds with the weekly Trancas concerts, the Composers Breakfat Club of Malibu, snd Wednesday Jazz Nights at Dreamland. Three solid events all summer long— I’ve been spoiled— and finally got to test drive some new songs with an 8-piece orchestra, including horns, keys, and percussion— with the CBC Allstars at our breakfast on August 24th. It was a dream come true, after my first visualization last June. Pictured above— the CBC Allstars with YT. Our performance was preceded by Kristina Ruiz from Five Star Falconry who graced us with her Siberian owl, Milo, and a tutorial in the art of falconry. Richard and Linda Gibbs, Akai Yang, and I spent a morning with Kristina at Woodshed flying two falcons, and Milo’s owl sister 10 days prior to the breakfast, and we all knew Kristina had to join us on the 24th. It was a wonderful morning. My fascination wth falconry started in 2010 in Northampton when a hawk began regular visitations to my front porch at 44 Liberty Street. After leaving Northampton for Newton, then Malibu, the hawk visitations continued. It seemed like no matter where I went, there were birds of prey, and in the spring of 2012, I had my first falconry lesson at the British School of Falconry in Manchester, Vermont. One day this summer, Richard, Akai, Linda, and I were hanging out chatting and the subject of falconry came up. The three of them had never done it so we decided it was something we all had to do together. And so it was. A magical experience. Highly recommended.
As summer winds down into Labor Day, we do what we always do when school goes back into session— re-start VINCENT’S LIFETIME RESIDENCY! Our Second Saturday shows start Saturday, September 12th, and run through December. We pick up again in March, ‘27 and play through June. We will skip January and February this school year.
I hope to have new music ready to release early next year. I have 9 tracks with one or two needing a little more work, and I want to add one more for an even 10. I hope to complete overdubs in Malibu in September and track something new in November. I am continuing my bi-coastal living indefinitely, and it’s working out well so far.
I hope you’ve all had a great summer— so far— there are still technically 3 weeks left!
